/322 - Diversion and Refocus

I was poking around a few sample players this morning and mentioned it to a friend who said “if this conversation was reversed you would tell me about some awesome app I should try first.” YES. Rigged up this all-battery setup and found a lot of possibilities within things I already had. The only issue here is that my battery (under the ipad) doesn’t seem to provide quite enough power as the Twister keeps rebooting. I’d also like to add my norns but there’s another power issue I’d need to solve. Still — all a lot less expensive that a hardware sampler. It’s good to bounce ideas around.

(ps — it really seems like the camera in my iphone is getting so bad. Really trying not to upgrade, but having a good camera in my pocket is important. :/ )

Digitone, battery, H4N Pro. What a powerful mobile setup.

The hands-on nature of the Model:Samples has made the Digitone click. I feel like I understand it on a whole other level, even after only a few days with the M:S. Very, very cool. I’m also pretty bad about making “songs” but tonight’s sketch just kind of came together. The performative aspects I can now see in here are incredible — this was all recorded and manipulated live to the zoom.

I also realized that yesterday marked the halfway point of this 365 blog. Not sure how far I thought I would actually get, but definitely didn’t think I would make it here. It has, so far, been one of the most productive (and WEIRD) years I’ve had. Having to post every day can be a slog, but part of the point was to keep me moving and it’s definitely worked. Thanks to anyone reading out there. Hope we all make it through the year safe and sound.

/028 - Cousins

The Electra recorder is full of character. I’m not sure it can do anything else, though it’s very possible that the old tapes that came with it are a contributing factor. It also has very low headroom so I needed to bring the input way down to avoid crazy feedback. Sounds rather nice with a little crunch, I think.

Played a generative sequence with dunes (internal audio and midi out to Digitone) and recorded simultaneously on the h4n pro and Electra. No post processing other than adjusting the levels to get them in the same range.

A little spider came to visit while I was editing,

/026 - Still

The holidays are “over” but it’s still busy. Recorded a couple quick things to test features and get used to the h4n. Pretty intuitive so far. A little hiss in the preamps, but seems like it won’t be too hard to eq out. I didn’t play around with that tonight. Ordered a windscreen and shock mount to be here this weekend so I’m going to try to find some time to take it out for a go.

Here’s some sounds: guitar > mini > compass > wedge > h4n
